The Society

The Society was founded in 1987, by Les Harris & George Featherston, to be a focal point for those interested in the traditional working boats of the Coble Coast of England.

Do not let the title fool you. Although much emphasis is placed on these vessels, members have a wide variety of interests and the Society is here to support them where it can.

Members generally find our local boats - the traditional fishing cobles and the larger decked INSHORE trawlers (or Keelboats) attractive. There is also an interest within the Society covering less well known local craft such as the double ended beach boats, the foyboats, collier brigs and keels, not to mention other craft now long part of history, such as the "Yorkshire Yawl".

There are also those who have an interest in the past, present and future. This covers boat preservation and conservation, boat building, dialect along the coast, fishermen (and fishing methods) along with their families and communities.

The Society has regular newsletters, 'Coblegram', and a journal. We attend harbour and lifeboat days along the coast with our exhibition stand. We also support local meetings, guest speakers and special events.
